If you are prone to leading, what happens when you are put in a group comprised entirely of leaders? I’m going to find out!
Yesterday I met with a project team from the Emerging Leaders Institute (an initiative of Leadership Fairfax). The seven member team has a variety of skill sets they bring to the table. Together, this group will tackle a community service project over the next 8 months. Considering their talent and energy, I bet they can achieve more than anyone expects at the outset.
Oh, and my role – - to sit quietly as a facilitator, making sure they remain on track. I’m not supposed to be a direct participant. Who knew being disengaged could be so much work? It took a lot of energy for me to remain in the background just listening.
So, here’s to the Red Team, and a successful experience. I wish them well.

So Tom, how is the community project going with the Emerging Leadership Committee? Are you still acting as Facilitator, and how do you find the experience?
ELI is going wonderfully. Our group project, a landscaping project at a residential setting for severely mentally ill adults, is starting to pick up steam. It is going to be a lot of fun and should be a great sight to see when we are done.
This post is actually by Shannon. He prefers to send the text and a picture to me then have me put it up. I am going to have to show him how it works so there is less confusion over the author…
